with French bicycle racing. No other brand can boast
a greater racing pedigree than Gitane: with 11 Tours
de France, 2 Giro d’Italias, the Vuelta a’Espana, numerous World
Championships on the road and on the track,
and at least one land speed record, Gitane bicycles have
won just about every major road race over its storied

Aside from its prestige on the race course,
the company was a huge contributor to the “bike
boom” in the USA during the early 1970's and along
with some other manufacturers, introduced the first truly
affordable lightweight racing bicycles to the American
public. Many bike racers’ first bike was a Gitane
and Gitane helped to get Americans back onto bicycles by making them affordable and easy to use. |
