Hey guys, thanks for the replies so far. As for the stem, it's help up to a couple hundred miles of riding so far... And I'm around #225.

A faded sticker on it says "Gitane....Champions du Mon ...

whats interesting is the brazing everywhere even in areas where it looks like it just dripped about like on the bottom bracket.

I think I would secretly take it to a frame builder for a little clea ...

Beautiful bike!

The "Custom Made" decal was standard on all Gitanes from about 1969 through 1974.
