Tim,
A couple of Gitane bikes in your backyard that, if close to you, could net you a good profit selling bits and pieces from them and then the frame sets.

looks like barnsley is the gitane centre of the uk!
have on occasion watched e bay uk auctions for gitane and picked up a couple of bargains
dont think the marque was too popular here in blighty unlike the us market. we seem to favour raleigh etc

bowser,
I forgot you were in the UK too.
Makes sense that y'all would like Raleigh. Back in the day it was Schwinn in the US.

Jay,

The blue one has nice Lyotard pedals as well as the bottle cage, as the seller highlights.

I agree with Bowser, Raleigh is the great British marque and most popular. Many in the UK grew up on a Raleigh, including me.

Thank you for the spot.

Tim

Bowser, you're in Lancashire I believe? I'm in Warrington which WAS lancashire once and sadly became Cheshire in the 70s.

I'm looking for a ladies bike (I've got Orange Clockwork, Brompton, an old road bike but I just fancy a 'ladylike' bike for pootling around on.

Do you come across many Gitanes in the UK of that nature? I've just missed one on Ebay which was a train ride away.

and southport (merseyside?)
if i come across anything local will let you know
i tend to only buy a bike that i can ride ie correct size
unless of course it has decent useable spares
i always search the bay for gitane i bought the team pro replica on there
as a frameset 24" just my size
good luck with your search

I used to work in Preston Bowser, when they were finishing the dock estate up towards the Blackpool Road. I helped set up an office for Fina but I was working for Lanstar who had a plant not far from Morrisons. I used to travel for six months during the winter as well. Thankfully I had a company car so that helped.

I'm waiting now for the Cycles Gitane ladies bike to come up at 16.39, it was listed before and I bid but lost just. He relisted it, saying an error in listing. I'm not sure what happened but he described it asl aluminium but I was sure it wasn't because of the lugs. Maybe the buyer was p**d off that it wasn't alloy?

Anyway I'm going to bid on it. It doesn't say Gitane on the discription.
I'll let you know if I win. If I don't like it I can always put it back. I currently ride an Orange Clockwork, have an old Soensport road bike and have a recumbent trike and a Brompton. I don't now do a lot of cycling but cycle a fair deal short distances but do like riding different bikes. I've nobody to ride with around here, the ones I might know go too far & fast.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Anne Marie

Anne Marie,

Well done. Do post photos when you get a chance. You've got a super collection of machines there.

Jay,

Thanks again for your original post and hope they've gone to a good home.

Got it home now. Read my post on Ladies bike information wanted on here, don't want to repeat myself!

Had a nice trip around part of the Wirral and went for the first time on the Metro line.

I'll post a picture when it's been cleaned and it's sunnier. Do you think I should keep the prop stand?

I'm really so excited. It was difficult to ride as the saddle was so low. I've just raised it a little but won't know until tomorrow. It's almost practically original and has a label of a bike shop in the Channel Islands.

Anne
