Hello all!!
Unfortunately both the tail as the frontlight are broken.
The mounting thingy of the front is broken off.
That was already when I bought the bike.
From the tail light the glass is broken, I have no clue when that happened.
I fear it happened during transport…
Anyways, I need to replace them but they appear hard to find.
I found something on eBay DE but was too late.
Any suggestions?
I need this one for the back,
It’s the Soubitez Catalux 8
And for the front I need this one.
That is the Soubitez SP L23.
The light in the picture is Soubitez SP L25, but that one has a different mounting.
And the mounting is what is broken with my original.
Do any of you experts know where I can get my hands on one of these?
I have done a bid on this bike :
http://fietsen-brommers.marktplaats.nl/fietsen-oldtimers/377263077-fiets-gitane.html
And for what it appears both lights are on there.
It’s hard to tell since the picture is very poor quality, I am in doubt about the tail light
I have send the seller some questions about the lights.
Also it appears that the original pump is there, which I am missing as well.
Greets
Michael

Oke then, I will keep an eye open on the French Ebay, which I find to have a very irritating lay out btw.
The seller has agreed on my (low) bid, so thursday I will head over there and maybe by the bike if the spares are good.
I have my mind set on that pump already so i may buy it after all.
My everyday bike is a crappy bike that I am loaning from my brother for over 5 years now lol.
Maybe I can use this one instead
mm might buy my 2nd Gitane in three weeks, there something going on here.
Somebody stop me |

You will not get any encouragement for self control here.
There is also a bunch of Soubitez on US ebay. There will almost certainly be people on this site willing to help you if you need it (with regards to purchases on ebay in the USA). |

Absolutely out of control here tonight!!
I just came home with the bike
Both the lights where not the ones I was looking for, and the pump doesnt say Gitane on it.
But then again I have no clue if there was ever a Gitane pump.
So I didn't bought the bike for spare parts reason, lol.
I bought the bike for $35, again from the first owner, same as the tandem.
He bought it when he was 20 years old, he is now 61!!
He agreed to my low bid, but had regrets when I showed up, he even told me if I didnt like it, I could leave it there with no problem.
But the bike was in such a good condition I just had to take, I can put it in my office straight away as an art piece so nice is it.
The bike was stored in a heated garage for the last 15-20 years.
The original tyres are still there, the decals are the same as the tandem.
The model is a " tourisme de luxe" so no racer, but it is in absolute perfect state!
I couldn't find any info in the " catalogue" section.
Anyways, I will send in some pictures tomorrow when the lighting is better.
This bike deserves a good pic
Greeting
Michael

Ps. again happy with a "new" Gitane! |

That should be adopted as the official motto of this forum, and may be the "post of the year". |

LMAO!!
Here they are, it is for real, I didn' t clean the bike what so ever this is the state how I picked it up.
I think the padles and the sadle are the only thing not original.
Love to hear youre thoughts and opinions and maybe some history!
I have the old black Brooks sadle that was on the tandem, I thik it will look good on this one.
What kind of padles there were orighinal on this bike I do not know.
I would love to have some info about that, so I could make this original. |

Although the Tandem may require some work----What a Find this is!!!
And a RARE Black paint scheme at that.
So how fortunate ---this is ready to enjoy immediately---- what a wonderful previous caretaker.
One wonders just how many more of these pristine treasurers are hiding over on the continent.
Congratulations on your new Beauty. And Don't give another thought about using the headlight - tailight from this Beauty for your tandem.
Like Stephan said " This looks Brand New" what a find!!! and for $35
I Like Steel !!!!

You didn't see her? You have to look more closely: the "beauty" (besides the bike) is the road that it was photographed on. Look at that thing!!! |

Stephan,
I agree on the beauty of the road, I don't know that I would like to ride many miles on it though.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
It looked to me as a rare find also when the guy opened up the garage.
For sure I will not use this bike as donor items for the tandem, this is a keeper and will be taken care of gently in the future!
The attractive women was out shopping
Lol yeah the road is indeed beautiful, where I live everything is like that.
The foto's where shot next to my house.
I live in a small old town in the Netherlands and every house is like a museum piece, all very wel maintained and real old.
The town is like a stronghold, don' t how to explain it but here' s the town on Google Maps, see for your self.
Real tourist attraction in summer, luckely they al go away at night haha
I live at the red A
Luckely outside town there are asphalt bikeroads along the river so you can cycle there nicely.
But inside town it is a bit bumpy
Regarding the bike, can I conclude since the decals are the same as the tandem that it is indeed late 60's early 70's?
The guy said he owned it for 41 years so that will add up then. |
