Only problem is that it's probably wired 220V DC, Positive Earth! |

I don't think so, the stickers say something about the manufaturer of the light and he is based in"bolonga".
This would be Italy, thus making it AC.
And I have never heard of anyone using 220V DC, where they use that?
220V AC is no problem for large part of the world, not suitable for US guys.
An option is that you change the lamp inside for any voltage you need.
It is a nice item, really nice to own and mount in the garage or something.
Shipping is always so expensive from UK, always wonder why.. |

That's a nice item. Well found. Not sure I'll go for it. Starting price is reasonably high but then again it's probably worth it.

My attempt at levity... making fun of British electricals but Gtane didn't pick up the bait!
In automotive wiring, British cars used "positive earth" while most of the rest of the world used "negative ground".
There was a hidden reference to Joseph Lucas founder of Joseph Lucas & Son later known as Lucas Industries Ltd. the infamous manufacturer of automotive lighting and electrical apparatus in the UK.
Joseph Lucas was known as "The Prince of Darkness" for the reliability or lack thereof of his automotive lighting equipment.
I'm glad I'm not doing standup comedy, come on guys, I'm dying up here on stage!
BTW, the earliest lighting and power transmission used DC electricity. and it's still in use in some parts of the world. |

LOL, same here didn't get it, been in electrics for almost 20 years so thought I know a thing or 2 haha
I also made a mistake in my question where they use DC, I said AC.
Confusing the AC - DC thingy haha
I'm ware of the fact that it has been used in the early days.
I heard that some old buildings in NY still are wired for DC.
They have transformers in the basement because they recieve AC.
Really confusing, and dangerous, for mechanics working there!!
I guess Edison had better selling points in NY then Tesla and friends at that time
