What am I missing?
There are double cable stops along the top tube in keeping with a cyclocross bike, but the cable stop for the rear derailleur is on the chain stay rather than the seat stay. (???) There are no stops on the down tube that we can see which would be odd for an 80's frame, wouldn't it? So, are the two cables on the TT the rear brake and the front derailleur? If so, why no stop on the DT for the rear derailleur? What am I missing here?
Also, the TT stops look very cheap and nasty for a 531 frame. But that sort of thing really shouldn't surprise me any more, should it?
Nice new puzzle, lofter. |

but there's only 2 cable stops. Shouldn't there be 3? (brake, f. der, r.der) |

Actually, it appears that the rear derailleur cable goes along the top, and the FD cable is routed "traditionally". I don't think there was a top-pull FD available at the time.
If you look closely at the one available on Ebay, you'll see the RD cable guides on the drive-side seat stay (there are two). Also, you can see in another picture a "fuzzy" image of a cable guide on the non-drive side down tube, presumably for the FD. |

That's a nice find Lofter. It's amazing how new old stock frames continue to appear. Long may it continue.

"coming home to papa hehe"
Lofter,
You're a dirty old man!
Cyclocross bikes usually have a high bottom bracket, around 11" to 11 1/2". The seat tubes are correspondingly shorter so the stand over hight gives you enough room for a quick dismount.
They're usually made of heavier gage tubing too for extra strength for rough handling when riding off road.
A friend is selling a classic early 70s Lejeune cyclocross frame about the same size as yours.
He put it together last fall for a local off road gran fondo, rode it once for about 60 km and decided that he didn't like it. So beware, on the road it may not be the softest riding bike.
... and I'm not going to pick it up! |
