You have a Stronglight A9 aluminum headset. They have needle bearings and work very well.

When I first overhauled one of these, I thought, what a piece of cr*p but after riding it for a while I realized that it was a very good design.

Because aluminum is much softer than steel, it's easy for some ham fisted wrench to mess up the threads.

I'd disassemble the headset and check out the threads on the steerer and also inside the threaded cup.

One possibility to check is that someone hasn't tightened a stem near the top of the steerer and caused the threads to bulge.

Forcing the threaded cup back on could strip the threads.

If every thing is OK and the threads are just a little loose, clean and re-grease the bearings.

Clean the threads with some solvent or alcohol on both the steerer and inside both the adjustable nut and the lock nut. Loctite needs clean surfaces to work. Apply a little blue Loctite to the steerer where the cup sits.

Loctite takes about 24 hours to really set up.

Chas., Is that directed to me for the Team Pro HS? I will check out the headset and see what I can find. I am able to easily tighten the nuts on it and there is no play. It just seems to loosen up fairly quickly.

Hi Chad,

I don't know how my response to you became a new message.

Make sure that all of the grease is cleaned off of both the inside threads and the steering tube.

After you install the adjustable cup, apply a little bit of blue Loctite to the threads. It will wick down into the gap in the threads.

Put a spot more on the steering tube for the lock nut.

These headsets are pretty amazing. They seem to work fine a little too loose or a little too tight.
