Hi everyone,
First I'd like to apologize for being one of those new guys that needs info and has little to contribute, but I have a track bike that I've been trying to identify.
Here's some photos. Thanks in advance for any advice or Information offered.

That was commonly referred to as the "Track Standard", which was the entry level track racing bicycle made available by Gitane. If you are planning to restore it...the first thing is to get rid of that saddle! |

I just bought a very similar looking bike at a bike swap. What vintage is the Track Standard? |

The Track Standard model Gitanes were sold in the US from the late 60s until the mid 70s.
The foil decal versions date from pre-1974.
In the 70s we sold Track Standards for $69.00 and later $79.00. We kept a few in stock and would take them out for a spin when the shop was slow or we were bored.
The local racers used to buy them for training in late winter then at the end of the racing season in August they would sell them back to us!
The European version was called the School model.
Cushy saddles like the one pictured on the bike above feel good for the first few miles.... then they become uncomfortable because they distribute pressure throughout your bottom including the soft areas!
Proper fitting saddles support the 2 bony protuberances on your pelvic bones. There is very little tissue surrounding those points and they "harden" up after a little bit of ridding so that sitting on a proper fitting, properly adjusted saddle becomes comfortable.
