This looks to be a superb example. Just my size and one of two, or so, Gitane models (the other being an '85-'86 Professionel) that I have been trying to run down; the "ones that got away". This model should have, I believe, the black and yellow "Gitane" stickers on both sides of the down tube.
Best Regards,
Peter H. |

Hi Peter,
This bike had the earlier black decals with white not yellow trim. Also the seat stays attach on the sides of the seat lug, not the fastback style that the 1984 and later bikes had.
This one is Super Vitus 980. The 1984 SC used Super Vitus 983. I think that 980 tubing was just a little lighter. I have several late 80s Peugeots with SV 980 frames and they ride as nice a Reynolds 753 (but not quite as nice as my 84 SC).
My early 1984 SC is still the best riding and handling bike I've ever ridden.
This bike looks like a 58cm C to T, 57cm C to C size frame. If it were a half inch smaller, 55 or 56cm, I'd be jumping all over it. |
