Hello,
My name is khunsa. I ride an HELYETT 1976 built by Gitane and bought new by my father in 1976 in France.
Since few weeks I do a restoration and now I ride with in PARIS.
For the "guidoline" sorry but I don't find the word in English and for the toe clip I went to "Cycles Alex Singer" and few days after ride I went to "Cycles Laurent" for adjust the speeds.
Now place to the pics :
Not the originals wheels they were changed in the 80' s :

Really nice bike.
Never saw any Gitanes with the Heylett decals here in the US until several were listed on eBay over the past year. Never even knew that they existed.
I suspect that they were brought into the US by individuals who got them in France.
In 1974 and 75, Gitane lowered the specifications for the Tour de France model bikes.
In 1976 they went back to the pre-1974 standards with a full Reynolds 531 frame and chrome plating of the forks and rear stays.
The 1974-75 TdFs sold in the US usually had Stronglight 93 cranksets instead of Sugino.
The pedals have been changed from Atom 600 or 700 to the Spanish made Iberia Cursa, Campy or Zeus knockoffs.
The 1976 TdF had Huret Success derailleurs and an Ideal 2002 saddle.

I'm very happy you like my bike
Unfortunatly I had today an accident alone with my bike. I lose the front weel when I would brake, but there was water on the street. I don't know why there was water because the sun was shinning. At the first time I don't see big problem on my bike. I know I can t change the cranckset. I have problem on one leg and on the two arms and on one hand.
If I can go out of my bed tomorrow I' ll go to see my Helyett in my cave.
I' ll look it with more details.
I' ll do a report.  |

And yesterday i bought a new bike, a gitane of course...
Because I don't want take the risk to break my old father's bike in the dangerous street of PANAME (slang name of PARIS)
I' m not sure of the model because pictures are very bad and the man who sells the bike doesn' t know it very well because it 's his father's bike too.
It' s full reynolds 531 and it looks like mine.
I must do a restoration.
When It comes by post I do pictures for identification.
But with a blue gitane and a red Helyett I have the colors of PARIS  |
