Hi,

I just bought a Gitane bike from craigslist. I like it and wanna to know what is the model name of this bike. Please find the craigslist link here:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/bik/2553708310.html
There is a label on it, which said it was made in Japan by Nissan Cycle

Thanks a lot,

You have a 1976-77 Gitane Olympic Record II.

http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/catalog/1977_pg3.jpg

For a few years Gitane was importing some Japanese and Taiwanese made bikes into the US.

Is it in riding condition and does it ride squirrely?

It looks like someone ran it into a curb and bent the fork.

Can/should the fork be bent back?

The fork should be realigned if possible by someone who knows waht they are doing.

Also, feel under the lugs where the top tube and down tube meet the head tube.

If you feel a ripple the frame has been bent too. It can usually be straightened if the bend is not too severe.
