I've been cleaning up the Tricolore and discovered that it has Shimano derailleur cable guides. It's hard to see in the photo but it is clearly stamped centered on the flat area. I also discovered it has a rifled steer tube (Columbus).

More bicycles fables... Wink

Contrary to the conventional wisdom Columbus wasn't the only tubing maker that produced rifled steering tubes.

All of my bikes made with Super Vitus tubing have rifled steering tubes. That includes my 1980 Bertin with SV971 tubing through my 3 "other French brand" SV980 bikes and my three 1984 Gitanes made of SV983.

My 1984 Super Corsa SV983

Italian Falck brand tubing had rifled steerers way back in the 60s. German and later Italian made Mannsmann tubing had rifling plus the Japanese tubing makers Tange and Ishiwata made rifled steerers.

Nice bike BTW... Cool

Super Vitus 971 had pretty much the same wall thickness tubes as Columbus SL tubing and gave a smoother ride than the heavier gage Reynolds 531 tubes used on the Olympic and Trophee models.

It should ride SUPER! Very Happy

Thank you Chas for keeping it real and sharing your wide scope of knowledge. I submit to the full fury of it!

Yes, the bike rides like a dream even with it being a bit small for me. I am taking much pleasure cleaning it up for the Mrs. to ride.
