Hello there, the other day this bike caught my attention at a local thrift store and it looked worth restoring. After looking around on Google I still have no idea of what model or year it is. It would be nice to know what it might be worth but I'm mainly concerned with figuring out the tire sizes so I can get it rolling again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Forum.
You have an early 70s Gitane Gran Sport.
It's a "biggun", looks like a 64cm size frame (25 1/2" nominal) measured from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube.
The position of the seat would indicate that the bike was too big for whoever was riding it. You should be able to comfortably stand over the frame.
It looks like long ago someone replaced the Simplex rear derailleur with a Shimano Skylark model.
Price wise, this was an entry level model and sold for under $80.00 new back in the day.
Bikes like this one go for $25 to $150 in thrift shops, Craigslist and eBay.
Figure on spending $100 to $150 to get it running well. |
