bonjour

Here is my new 10speeds course, few mileage:
Salmon Sport: almost light Durifort tubbing; Huret (Challenger?); Sugino SuperMaxy; Mafac Racer; Bocama lugs
but with Gitane logo on fork: a mixed tubbing-kit? a mid-range fork?
Please check soldering (welding?)

Salmon Sport (South of Paris) is a small "customizer" craftsman, different from famous D.Salmon, Lamballe (West of france)

Dating?
I know old Durifort tubbing was still displayed when new Vitus was sold
Is it a "sur mesure" bike or a rebadged Gitane?

thanks for your help

Greetings, looks like a rebadged late 70s Interclub or similar model that was made for the European market.

Durifort tubing was introduced in the 1930s.

It was made from low alloy carbon steel with about 2/3rd the strength of the alloy steels used in Reynolds 531, Columbus and Super Vitus tubing.

The decal indicates the the 3 main tubes were butted. Only the top tube and down tube on a frame are "double butted" (renforces).

The wall thickness of Durifort tubing was about the same as that of the Reynolds 531 tubing used in may production bikes: 0.7mm tick in the main section and 1.0mm thick in the butted ends. Columbus SP tubing had about the same wall thickness.

Eventually Durifort was changed to Durifort 888, 788, 988 and so on, then it became Vitus tubing. These Durifort tube sets had straight gage (non renforces) main frame tubes. Also they changed to stronger alloy steels.

Should be a fun bike to ride, enjoy.
