Hi
The knurled heads on the Vitus rear dropout adjusters on my Criterium have come off sometime over the years and I would like to replace them where can I get some. are they all the same thread, what retro fits ect?

Campagnolo, Shimano, Simplex, Suntour, and Zeus all used 3mm x 0.5mm screws.
Huret used 3mm x 0.6mm screws.
My guess (and that's just a guess) is that Vitus used the 3mm x 0.5mm standard too.
You should be able to find a cheap 3mm x 0.5mm tap at a hardware store.
Completely remove the adjusters and clean the grit off of them with some kind of solvent. Next clean out the screw holes in the dropout and plastic bushing with a Q-Tip or something like that.
Gently run the 3mm tap through the hole and then reassemble using a little bit of light grease on screws and the springs or the plastic bushings in the case of Vitus dropouts.
It's a lot of work but it will be worth it if you ever want to adjust those screws.
NOW - The caps... You can sometimes find the screws and caps sold as pairs on eBay.
WHEN you find some, clean off the end of the screws with some kind of solvent, also the threaded holes in the caps. Use a little bit of Loctite or other thread locking compound on the screw end and screw the cap on. Let it sit until it hardens.
Again, it's a lot of work but... |
