Judging from the decals, your bike is any early 1980s model, maybe 1981 or 82.
It has an entry level frame with a little better quality components.
One comment meant to get your attention....
I have no understanding why people show pictures of the left side of their bikes.
All of the important mechanical parts are on the right side!
Seeing what cranks, and derailleurs are on the bike can help identify the model and tell a lot more about it.
This is close to an entry level model. It's probably not worth spending a lot of money to restore it. You can find better models in nicer condition for a lot less than it would cost you to restore this bike.
You can clean and tune it and maybe apply a rattle can paint job and you have a fun to ride bike.
The two most important parts of a bike are the frame and the wheels. The determine the ride and handling characteristics.
You could spend several hundred dollars and still have an entry level model.
When I see someone with an old entry level model with good paint and chrome, I'll frequently suggest that they spend a little to restore the cosmetics of their bike. Then they will have a nice looking bike that will be fun to ride too. |

Thanks Chas.
Sorry about that. I did add some other pics from the other side. Hope that helps some. I've been riding this bike for some time. Around new york city for a few years and in Tampa. It's survived getting hit by a car and such. I am more attached to it then anything. I would like to spruce it up and give it some character. Just been giving it thought since I've been recently working as a programmer for a machine shop that makes bike components. |

First thing to do really is pick it up off the floor and put the rear wheel on.
Then you can see whats going on.

Well actually had some time today and took advantage of the sunshine and got some better photos. Finally was able to make out one of the decals which is the 788 vitus tubes. |

It looks like an early 80s lower mid range model. Most of the components are probably original.
A Durifort frame with alloy rims should make a about 24-25 Lb. bike.
I'd suggest cleaning the bike and replacing the cables. Lube and adjust the brakes and derailleurs.
Take it out and ride it to see how you like it before sinking any money into.
Enjoy. |
