Hi everyone !

First of all, please forgive my english, I'm a french guy and not really at ease with your language Embarassed

Can someone help me identifying this bike ?
It seems to be a Gitane (the honeycomb) but there is ni brand on it.
I searched on 70's catalogues, but I found nothing related to this bike, specially his full chrome frame ...

honeycomb, bocama "raccords" (i don't know the english word)

sugino crankset, Lyotard pedals

Simplex criterium gears

Normandy hubs, Mavic wheels

Brake are Mafac competition, handlebar is a 'guid, modele déposé"

Thanks for your help !!!

Julien,
Montpellier, France.

I am not an expert on gitanes, but untill an expert arrives I can tell you a bit about the parts.

The hubs are Normandy luxe Red lables, they are nice and I really love them.

raccords = dropouts?

The bike frame is from the mid 1970's, has 3 tubes reynolds 531 and the full chrome is quite a rare find. Its a very nice bike.

Were gitane the only brand to use those dropouts/raccords?

I saw this bike on flickr, I didn't know it was on gitane USA too !
But as gitane and Renault teamed up in 1978, and my frame seems to be earlier (1975), according to the serial number, so I don't believe in a Renault frame...

Thank you anyway Very Happy

For the most part, yes. In the mid 70s I saw a French made VeloSolex with those Huret "honeycomb" dropouts, also a Dawes from the UK.

I doubt that any of the components are original - but FWIW, those Huret DOs and long pointed lugs look familiar - as on my '74 Gitane Champion du Monde below.

Hi auchencrow, thanks for your reply !

My components fit with the '75 french catalogue "Tour de France" model !

According to that theory about serial numbers, my frame is a 1975 one.

Everything matches, except the color Evil or Very Mad

Total fantasy... Rolling Eyes

After over a year of gathering Gitane serial numbers from Forum members, we came to the conclusion that the characters stamped into Gitane frames had no logic to them and were at best internal Gitane processing numbers! Confused
