Craigslist treasure a 2 for dirt cheap deal!
I was looking for a large-framed old-school ten-speed and didn't want to pay much. I found this pair of Gitanes. I only wanted the Victoire because the guy wanted $45 for it. He bought both the Victoire and the Brio "step-over" at the same time back in the mid eighties.

They are in excellent condition, almost like-new. Neither were ridden much and I doubt the Brio saw more than a few rides. Tires are toast but every thing else works find and is very clean.

I will find a home for the Brio and put some new rubber and a seat post on the Victoire for myself as a trail cruiser. Will see how the Huret stuff works 'cause I don't fee like investing where none is needed.

I could have just bought one, but they looked like they have been life-long garage mates.

Wudman,

Judging by a local CR ad for a Brio, it looks like you are nearby...

I guess I missed the initial post for those two bikes. Not too many Gitanes seem to pop up on the local CR.

I got a 71ish TDF a couple years ago, but iirc the listing was for a 10speed with no pics.

Oh, judging by the catalogs they are from 87-89

Welcome,

Garrett

...Welcome,

Garrett

Hi Garrett,
Thanks for the welcome and year info. I found these looking for frame size. I am in the Metro East, but had to haul it to O'Fallon, MO to pick these up. The downside of a mini van is I can opt-in to additional purchases.

I have ordered new tires and tubes to replace to original Wobler tires. I though the seat post had plastic, but it is just topped with black.

I was just outside taking a shot of it with my other CR bike fun, an older Marin hybrid.

If you know anyone that wants a nice stepover.... It is almost as nice as new.

Hi Wudman -

Nice snag on those two!
The "step through" frame with the double top tubes is called a "mixte" frame.

PS- You should service all the bearings before riding either one, because though they may have just a few miles on them, they have plenty of years for the grease to turn all to varnish, and running them will destroy the bearing surfaces.

Thanks for the tip. I was going to get into the wheels, stems and crank bearings once the new tires came in. I got that Carol King kind of thing going on.. anticipation,,,
