After seeing the photos from Smilingroadrunner with his boys and their Gitane's I thought it would be nice to have a Gitane ride photo thread. Hopefully it can make it sticky so it's always at the top. Would be nice to see shots where people are riding their awesome Gitane bikes - like Stephan and the racing shots, etc.
I'll start - posted this in another forum last night. Warning - lots of photos coming.
For several years I've had a goal of doing a 100 mile ride on the Trail of the Coeur d"Alenes in the Idaho panhandle. This MUP is 72+ miles long and completely paved. Because it's an old railroad line it is quite - ok, really flat. There are hills on each end but they're not more than 2-3%. I grew up in this area and love riding here when I come back - beautiful, scenic countryside with little traffic and incredibly friendly people. On a midweek ride in October there were times where I could go 90 minutes without seeing anyone. I tried chatting with the cows but they weren't very responsive. All morning I was the youngest person on the trail by a large margin and I'm 47. Every single person smiled, waved and said hi and so did I. Nice change from riding on the Seattle area MUP's. By the end I was at 102.3 miles in 5 hrs 26 minutes. A beautiful day to ride a fantastic trail.
The start:
After the bitter cold 7 mile descent at the bottom you get to this:
The fun bridge:
The bald eagle sat long enough for a photo at full zoom
After 15 miles the trail parallels the Coeur d'Alene River for almost the entire way.
For two weeks I debated what bike to take. It was going to be one of the two Gitanes and I finally decided on the Tour de France. I left the 6 spd tubular wheelset at home in favor of the lightweight 8 spd wheelset from my titanium ride. Not that I needed the extra gearing but it was nice to know they were there.
Lunch time at a local park at the turnaround:
So, let's see those ride photos and hopefully keep this going. |

What type of camera are you using? Very clear, beautiful shots! Loved the eagle! |

It's a Samsung DV300F. Only had it for a month or so and still working through all the features. Fairly lightweight and easily fits in a jersey pocket. |
