I had the pleasure of finally meeting member "Lofter" from the Gitane Forum yesterday! We have been friends...without meeting...for some time now. Brought together by our mutual admiration for quirky French bikes with Gitane logos on them!
He drove all the way from Illinois to Southern California to pick up a Gitane "triple" bike...which I picked up for him and 'stored' (and rode) for about a month. Truly a dedicated collector!
We have helped each other out with bicycles and equipment in the past, and will continue to do so. The Gitane Forum, and community, has been great: Friendly, informative, and helpful. Thank you all for creating a laid-back and informative place to talk bicycles!
If any of you are in the Southern California area, please don't hesitate to contact me so that we might be able to meet in person!

The Gitane "Triple": Lofter's bike was too big to ship, so he drove out here and picked it up! |

Great story. I met Chas in person in 2009 and went for a ride with him. It's great to be able to finally meet in person someone who has been a "virtual" friend. |

Scott and his father stopped by and we went for a short but scenic ride here in the Bay Area.
I like to meet folks from the internet that visit the area. |

stephan , thanks for everything you did to help me . got back home last night about 11:30 pm . i was and still am pretty wiped out from all that driving , nice easy day today to relax take the bike down off the car and tinker with it . thanks again for the wonderful lunch (green chili smothered burrito) it was great. i wish i could have went for a ride with you but we were pretty tired after throwing at the disc golf course and really wanted to start on the drive back . the mrs and i are planning already to fly out and rent a car and come back to huntington beach and i wont be on such a cash strapped budget . she said you'll be able to go for a ride when we come back . the bike made it just fine , only had to tighten the strap once on the way back. it was really cool to finally meet a person to match the virtual internet friend. it was really fun to talk gitanes , posters and pretty much everything else gitane.my only regrett is we didnt get a pic together , oh well on the return trip i supose. |
