Any suggestions on how to remove the BB fixed cup? I'm aware that it's RH threads but don't have any wrench that fits. Thanks. bb   Posted: Mon Dec 17, 2012 10:23 am headset Joined: 03 Aug 2011 Posts: 5 I've had the best luck with stripping the frame down, locking the fixed cup in a big vise mounted to a big table, and turning the frame around the cup - making absolutely sure you're spinning it in the right direction and the vise is clamped securely on the flats of the cup. Fixed cups tend to be removed less frequently than the adjustable cup so they're often rust wielded to the bottom bracket, especially if the frame has sat outside for a period of time. I heartily endorse the tool tip from Sheldon Brown to which Chas referred you. I initially tried a harder bolt with a little finer thread - that stripped when the going got tough. You'll need a deep socket to go inside the frame to the bolt or nut, but be careful, the socket may be too big to actually fit on the bolt and inside the frame. I think I had to use a 1/2" breaker bar and a big wrench with a cheater to get the leverage I needed. If all else fails, is it easy enough to rebuild the BB without removing the fixed cup? Also, is there a left/right side to the spindle (I can find any markings on it). BTW this is a stronglight BB circa 1971....is there any market for used bike parts from this era? Our local bike shop has been around for many years - sold Peugeot's back when I was in college here. They still have a lot of their old tools including one for removing the fixed cup.
