I am looking for a replacement for my original Simplex Prestige derailleur on a 1974 TdF. Anybody have any recommendations? Thanks! |

I would suggest Ebay, lots of vintage parts available, quite often you can find new old stock that has never been mounted on a bike. |

TdFs came with Simplex Criterium not Prestige derailleurs. Someone may have replaced the original RD with a Prestige.
Prestige
Criterium
I was out riding my almost all original 1969 TdF today. The Simplex Criterium RD worked great!
I'd recommend finding a later model metal Simplex rear derailleur like the SX410, SX610 or similar model. They will bolt right on without any modifications. Replace the shift cable and cable housing. Grease the cable before assembly.
SX410
SX610

I was pretty sure it was the original derailleur. It looks like the Criterium but says Prestige on the back. The problem I am having is it no longer seems to keep the proper tension in the chain. |

There is nothing wrong with Simplex derailleurs and those that say they are crap plastic don't understand the concept behind them which was mass transportation, normal use and when worn or broken, replace or fix.
Good Criterium derailleurs work great are modern in concept and relatively better than the cheap derailleurs found on the equivalent low cost bikes of today.
They are almost free on ebay |
