First off I'm very impressed with depth of knowledge on this forum.
Always loved Gitane bikes of old and bought my first of eBay the other day but need help with ID and year info. I think it is around 1974 or '75. It's marked as a "RacingTeam". Is this a Tour De France frame. I should probably say I'm in Scotland and wondered if frames were given different names for the States?
Some frame details I know:-
Simplex front dropouts. Huret Honeycomb - rear dropouts.
Nervar Forks.
Sugino 35 xp1 Made in Japan - cotterless bottom crank.
Diameter of tubes - Seat tube & down tube 28mm. Crossbar 26mm.
No chrome on forks ends or chainstays.

Greetings and welcome to the Forum.
Looks like a nice frame, some kind of European model from ~1974-75, maybe something like an Interclub???
Is there a Reynolds decal?
Can you post some more pictures, especially close ups of the head tube, lugs and dropouts.
Gitane used "fish mouthed" tubing ends on their frames with Reynolds fork blades and rear stays ... and domed ends on the non-Reynolds tubes.
Gitane put the "RacingTeam" decals on the chain stays of their performance bikes between 1974 and 76??? Doesn't mean anything.
Even without Reynolds forks and rear stays, a frame that size should be a nice riding bike.  |
