Most French bikes with standard Reynolds 531 tubing take 26.4mm seatposts.
Gitane and others made a few frames with lighter gage (thinner wall thickness) Reynolds 531 tubes. Those used 26.6mm seatposts.
Frequently the seat tube lugs and seat tubes are out of round from either having a smaller seatpost clamped in or they the came from the factory that way.

Here's some drawings that I just did that show internal bulging inside the seat lug also an out of round seat tube.
We made seat tube sizing mandrels at our shop. They were tapped into the seat tube to round out the hole and also get rid of the bulges.
These days I use 1/2" drive sockets attached to a piece of 1/2" all thread rod to get them out. I have a bunch of slightly different sized sockets.
Once the seat tube is round then I ream and hone the tube. The seatpost slides in and out smoothly for easy adjustment. |
