OK, it's all in the title...
Beware, I said "favorite", not "best"...you can be as sentimental as you like !
For a reminder, Renault Gitane achievements in 1983 :
-Hinault : Vuelta (2 stages), Flêche Wallonne, Pino Cerami Prize
-Fignon : Tour de France (1 stage), stage win in the vuelta, tirreno adriatico & criterium international
-LeMond : Dauphiné Libéré (3 stages), World Championships, Super Prestige Pernod
You can discuss further...
Of course, we all know who would win the DS title ! |

I myself voted for Greg.
I think that, for this particuliar season (1983), Greg achieved an awful lot at only 22 : winning the "mini-tour" and wearing the rainbow jersey, with which he came 2nd at the tour of lombardy...to finally win the super-prestige which was the equivalent of the world cup/pro-tour at the time.
Sure, Fignon won his first tour at 23 but the general feeling was that he did it by "elemination", everybody having a failure at one point except him.
Bernard Hinault won the vuelta but 1/It was far from an easy victory and 2/He pushed himself so much that he had to withdraw from the tour de france. |
