What I "want" and what I will buy are two completely different things.

Right now, all of my money is going into my house, which is being remodelled...so I would rather you get all of the stuff that is out there, instead of it going someplace where we may never see it again.

I view all of the items owned by the people who are active on this list as part of my "extended collection" anyways!

And regarding that Delta track bike...it is cursed, and I am hoping it doesn't sell at all. One of us will run into it at a garage sale for $40 one of these days....

The only ones I will fight you for are:

(1) Delta TT bike, in either color variation (preferrably, Systeme U);
(2) The 1988 Team Replica.

I will have both of those bikes someday, size 54 ctc.

by the way before i start looking at this site i dont even know what a Delta bike is.
Nowadays i like to have one, but sometimes i think, most of the collectable bikes are allready in the U.S.A.!
Have you ever been at a `velorendezvous`event?
Just saw a video on `youtube`, looks great.

P.S. it would be a honour for me if you put my bike on gitane.usa

I was at the velo rendezvous event in Pasadena two years ago, and want to go again this year, but with more Gitane stuff to show off! Just a matter of timing for me, really. It is a great event, but most of the people are really into the small "craft" bikes, not mass-produced bicycles for the proletariat like Gitane.

There are LOADS of Gitane in France and Germany...but specially in France, which go for a lot less than they sell for here. I would imagine that you could find some pretty cool old stuff if you looked around at some antique shops in small towns in France. In the USA, everything must be found on Ebay or craigslist...and they usually go for premium prices. There is a new craze here -- the fixed gear fad -- which has inflated the selling price of older steel bicycles here (even crappy ones now seem to be going for $$).

As far as Deltas are concerned, we have only seen one in the USA, and it was the Track version. There was one listed on French ebay about 3 years ago, but the person had 0 feedback and didn't return emails, so it may have been a fraud. However, I would venture to guess that there may be a few in France...but almost none in the USA. At least no one has been able to locate one.

Being in Europe...and not far from France...you are in a better position to pick up Gitanes than anyone here. But who knows, really!

yes i did and i appreciate everything you gave me .... i really do . i feel the same way about gitanes . i want to see the gitanes go to forum members right here who appreciate them . i enjoy them alot . its fun to collect the parts to put on them .everything about them is fun to me . its my escape from the mad world we live in sometimes.just talking about them is fun and look how much weve learned.i feel that i know all the regulars here on the forums even tho ive only met them in cyberspace.
wish we could all meet up together somewhere sometime.
i kinda faded from the cycling when they went to super u so the 88 isnt a biggie on my want list .even tho i have the decal set , which i think gtane has one if im not mistaken right?i need to send the scan to cyclomundo so he can have them to reproduce. maybe someday we can have a decal library right here so if someone needs em we could just send the scans to whoever to make. later for now

Lofter, I do have the '88 Replica. Further on from your idea, perhaps there is the possibility of an inaugural 'International Gitane Meeting' at some point - France maybe fitting.

Stephan, what might be a good idea, for the forum/website, is a gallery area for each year and model, where everyone could show their Gitanes. Not only that, this feature would make for a superb virtual museum. There are so many wonderful machines within the forum that could be extracted for this purpose. Could that be a workable idea for the new website?

Holger, Retro Ronde Looks like another one to add to the list. Thanks for the lead, I've never heard of that ride before but if the photos are anything to go by then it's got to be done.

I'm a very new member to the site and currently only have one Gitane but I've been so enthused by the knowledge and interest in the marque from all members that I'm very tempted to expand my Gitane stable.

Stephan,

Theres a group devoted to Raleigh Team bikes, the red yellow and black ones.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TI_RALEIGH_TEAM_PROS/

You have to register with Yahoo Groups to access the site but registration is easy.

They have some features like a registry and photo gallery that you might want to check out.

I think that you have the best layed out site I've encountered and I've been online since 1995.

Chas.

Thanks...my web guy Biorn will appreciate that! By the way, this site started as a Yahoo Group, because it was free and easy to use. The advantage here is that we have almost unlimited space, and a website to help draw people to the site.

I have been saying for months that the website will be redone...and it will be updated and renewed, which should draw further interest!
