I bought this as a bare frame on eBay last year. It had some really ugly pale yellow decals and there were quite a few paint chips. I had some questions about the vintage but Stephan suggested that it was an 84 model and that the decals were poor quality repros.
I replaced the decals with a set I got from Cyclomondo on eBay and I was able to touch up the paint perfectly.
This is the first Gitane I've owned since the mid 70s. I originally intended to use this as a wet weather beater bike. I had the frame and fork aligned by a local frame builder. After the first time out I was in love with the ride and handling.
Being a novice to post 70s Gitanes I equipped it with components similar to the 1985 Super Corsa pictured in the Models section of the site.
Serial number is E039898 01 U5544A

How it looks today. The color is a strange muddy blue in anything but bright sunlight but in the sun it looks great. For some reason the Super Corsa - Made In France decal is on the chainstay instead of the top tube.

Very nice indeed Chas. It looks so clean and tidy and with lever bosses. |
