I just found this site today. I'm a proud owner of a 70's Tour de France that I'm still riding regularly. I bought my bike in about '74 or '75 from a guy I knew in college. When I got it, it had no tires so I put American rims/tires and guess what, they are a little too bad. I've been meaning to get 700 cc rims/tires for it but have never gotten around to it. I've also been thinking about replacing the crank.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mike

Thanks for stopping by the site. Post some pictures of the bike...as for wheels, I would suggest something with large flange Campagnolo Nuovo Record hubs and a five speed Regina Oro freewheel, Wolber rims (sew ups if you are into that sort of thing)...how does that sound?

With respect to changing out the crankset, why would you want to do that???

I'll try to post some pics (I need to clean the bike up a bit). Actually the front wheel has a Campagnolo track hub on it now - is that the same one you recommend? I don't want any sew-ups - that's what was on the bike originally.

The crankset has always felt a little loose.

I would stick with clinchers for a training/around town bike. However, track hubs wouldn't be the preferred one because of the wrench required to remove and replace the tires. Quick release were invented for ease and speed of operation, but aren't used on the track because if you flat, you have a tool box nearby anyways....
