How can I tell if my bicycle is a Gitane? When I bought the bike used in the late '70s I was told it was a Gitane, but it had been repainted and had no decals and I can't find a serial # on the frame anywhere. |

The first thing you can do is to look at '70s brochures, and see if anything look similar to your bike. One complication is that, especially since it has been repainted, components may have been changed. The other thing to do is to take a picture and post it so experts can try to figure out what it is. |

Post a picture, with details of the rear dropout, head tube, fork crown, and seat lug. I think the folks on this forum should be able to tell you definitively.... |
