OK, here are a few historical shots for the Easter break that I took at the 1982 World Road Championships, Goodwood, UK.
I was lucky enough to get a shot of Greg being consoled after his second place from Saronni. Not sure who the other US rider is in the background. Anyone know? Greg is slightly out of focus but it was a real scrum trying to get the shot at all.
I have also included three further shots, below.
This one shows a young Fignon within the peloton.
This shot shows the peloton cruising during the first half of the race, plus some guy taking a break on the far left of the shot and again a young Fignon.
This shot shows the peloton climbing the Goodwood hill towards the end of the race with Lemond to the right of the shot.

Great pictures. Please post some more if you have them....
I have that "German team jersey", which I always thought was pretty classic (I am 1/2 German).... |

I'm pleased you like the shots Stephan.
I particularly like the shot of Greg and the riders climbing up the hill with the word 'Lemond' written across the road. It looks like Sean Yates to the far left among many other greats.
I do have more shots of the same race but they are not Gitane related (identifiable riders on Gitanes) so was reluctant to post. There may well be Gitane riders in another Country's colours but I'm not so good at recognising every rider to know. For the road shots I was primarily identifying by the type of bike.
The German shirt is certainly a classic and how good they all look when together in a bunch.
I wonder where all those bikes are now? There's something very appealing about the pre clipless pedal era but just getting along to any bike race is, for me, a terrific pleasure. |

I just realised that I actually loaded the wrong shot. It's correct now. Thanks Stephan. |

Those are great !
Did you notice ? On the first shot, behind the spanish rider, you can get a glimpse of...HINAULT !
And, yes...Greg riding over his own name is quite cool. Although he made his possible most stupid move at the finish of that race... |

God, that last one is terrible...it's an amateurish commercial where Bernard sells insurance....
Not good. |

It looked cool...because it is current. I had no idea what he was saying. Everything said in French sounds good to me. He could have been talking about his first tour de france win for all I knew. oh well. |

In fact, it is NOT current.
Bernard Hinault was on the cover of one of the last issues of "vélo magazine" and appears to be in much better shape than on this clip.
I'll try and scan a few excerpts for you... |

I think that is Hinault, Nicolas, it looks like his style. Well spotted. I think he pulled out about half way through the 1982 race though.
Great to see Bernard riding again. Whatever shape he's in, I'm pretty sure he could ride way off my wheel. Fun clips, thanks. |
