Dear All
I just helped my brother out cleaning his garage, and rescued an old Gitane bike that would otherwise be discarded. I would very much like to restore this bike, and I wonder if anyone here could help me out identifying the model, year and possibly components. I am especially interested in knowing the type of Simplex deraillleur to know whether it one of the good models.
I live in Norway. The pictures are found here.

From what I know, it is a Reynolds 531 frame. It has a Simplex derailleur, "Mavic Racer" brakes, and a San Marco saddle.
best,

It appears to be a circa 1976 Gitane Tour de France. It is one of the high-end models...just off the best frame (which would have been made of all Reynolds tubing: your's is built with the three main tubes of Reynolds).
Very nice bike, and well worth preserving. |
