$10,200.00 !!! Shocked

That's the most I've seen any bike sell for on eBay! Shocked

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190230344252&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=009

I was going to throw some money at it but when the price went over $800 USD, it was a little too rich for my blood.

Well I guess it's not going to be turned into a fixie! Laughing

Thanks Chas. I remember a bike ridden by Roberto Heras, from the last stage of the Vuelta in 2005, went for a huge sum in 2005. The final figure was around the $29k mark.

And it's not going to Japan unless winning bidder is representing the final Buyer....

That is shocking. There really is no reason to not believe that it was Mottet's, but there is no actual evidence or certification of its pedigree.

I am glad, I guess, to see that Gitane's are worth so much???

I returned from a week with the Scouts at summer camp and was following posts on this site and this bid activity last evening on E-bay. When I retired to bed with an hour to go I thought it might fetch 2-3k range, what a suprise this morning!!!

From posts on this site, it would seem the seller is sincere---but who knows the provenance--history of this bike. It will be interesting to see if the purchaser is a site memer, or if they will be in contact with the Gitane USA.com.

G'day all, looks like it will be a great afternoon for a ride.
Man I love riding the restored 70 TdeF. I didn't get the Brooks Pro saddle for my Bday, but the family got a Polar CS200 cyclocomputer to help me keep track of milage---and monitor my HR as I get too much of an Adrenaline kick every time I get on the new ride. Very Happy The Brooks will be in the near future. Cool

I Like Steel !!!

Stephan,

Well yes and no, it could signal an interest in Gitanes by collectors that could make our bikes more valuable but it could also increase the prices we have to pay for bikes that we might want to ad to our collections. Confused

BTW, I received a packet from a lawyer delivered by an agent of the US government on Friday. Thanks much. Cool

I too thought about the $2k mark, C.A., and was also wowed when seeing Chas' post. I'd agree too that this sale is good news for Gitanes and Gitane collectors but as Chas says, we could well be paying more for the machines in the future. It's certainly a brand that's close to many hearts.

As for the Super Corsa, Jay, have a go. It could be a good time.

The Super Corsa on eBay is up to $517 USD. It probably wont bring too much more because it's a 62cm size frame. Bikes with 54cm to 59cm are more popular.

Mean while there's a rather ratty looking Tour de France up for auction that the seller has parted out. It looks like it's spent the last 10 years out in the weather.

What surprises me about the ratty TdF is that the seller values the Brakes more than the frame...hummmmm?

As for the Super Corsa, I'm finishing MY TdF and have another project in the works. There is plenty of room in the basement thought...again, hummmmm?

There was a red, yellow and black Raleigh Team frame that kept showing up on eBay. It had obviously been submerged for some time.

I currently have a number of Gitane projects in the works: a late 60s TdF, a mid 80s Team Replica, an early 90s Team Replica??? and I need to finalize my 1984 Tour de France.

The past 3 weeks I've been riding a 1988 Bianchi Giro. I bought it last summer. It probabaly had less than 100 miles on it but it appears that someone was riding it through the surf. I finished going over the whole bike at the beginning of May. Today I took my 1984 Super Corsa out for a ride, what a difference! Wink

Ok, it's me, I bought the bike...NOT !

Just kidding.

I bought a Giro pink jersey from this seller, though...
