Got this 12 speed a week and a half ago, still fiddlin' with it.
It has original Mavic Module >>E<< rims, Guidron(?) bars, Stronglight cranks with 52/42 rings, and Simplex front derailleur.
The previous owner added a Sora real derailleur and Serfas Seca RS FPS tires. Oh and funky Suntour XC-II pedals.
Sorry for the poor photographs; focusing problems.

thanks for posting the pics! Bike looks great...don't change a thing on the frame, specially when it comes to the forks! |

Decided to keep it all original, except for component upgrades. |

Good to hear. Parts are parts...but the frame is irreplaceable! |

Yes. Someone out there may know enough to improve on what Gitane hath wrought, but it is not me.
I'll get a different frame to build up. That is something I've wanted to do.
Both my son and nephew are very much into it and are planning on opening a shop when my son graduates next year.
Nephew rode competitively at UNC, some sort of university cycle club.
I digress... again. |

Thanks for the shots. Good to hear that you'll be keeping the frame as original. It looks to be in great condition and I really like the colour. Upgrades should be pretty straightforward to obtain.
As for a frame to work with, have you seen the amazing NOS Team Pro that's available on Ebay France? Here's the thread including the Ebay link http://www.gitaneusa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=749
