Does anyone know what bottom brackets were typically used on the mid-80's Gitane? My Sprint appears to have english threading but I don't know much more than that.

From the early 1980s most French bikes switched to British threads in the headsets and bottom brackets, but...

Motobecane for example used a combination of thread standards during those years including Swiss metric threads on some of their bottom brackets.

I'm not that familiar with post 1970s Gitane specs but all three of my mid 80s Gitanes have British threads even though they have metric sized tubing.

Chas.

Same as mine: all 1980's have english threading. My 1976 also has english threading (go figure!).
