It is a nice video and thanks for the note Jay although I feel the credit should really go to the makers.
I'll keep my eye out for any more.

Tim,
Thanks for the great links.
The footage of the old bikes was probably from the L'eroica race/ride that takes place every year in Northern Italy.
L'eroica is kind of a blend of Paris-Roubaix and Paris-Brest-Paris with Pros, amateurs, bike collectors and tourists. I think it was originally supposed to be a celebration of old bikes and period cycling clothing. Much of it is ridden on unpaved crushed white limestone roads.
You wont see many Gitanes or other French bike there, lot's of "sick room" green though! It's sort of like the Italian celebration of the French wine harvest!

Thanks for the great link too Chas. Wonderful stuff. It does indeed look very much like L'Eroica, absolutely. What a refreshment stop! Now, that's cycling.
I've noticed that Brooks tend to use quite a lot of these retro shots and imagery in their marketing. There was none of that glamour when I bought my Pro, just a very small black and white photo in a catalogue but like the guys at Condor say, it will out last the rider!
I love the way the L'Eroica riders get in to the retro look for the event.
This is one event I would love to go to - the middle distance.

I want to do this at least once in my lifetime. And yes...I will be riding a certain French bike to remind all the pasta-eaters that French bikes kicked their arses in the past. |

Thanks Chas. I feel that this really is one of THE events that I want to attend. The more I see shots the more it makes me want to go.

Tim,
I hear that riding the "white roads" (unpaved crushed limestone) can be quite a challenge for tires, bikes and riders alike. After a short stint on some paved roads you hit the white roads in the hills. Too much work for me...
On another note, I was out riding sewups (tubs) yesterday. It was a perfect warm cloudless Fall day. Climbing was a joy. I was on my 1980 Bertin Team bike not a Gitane but I'm in the process of building up my early 90s Gitane Team? bike with sewups. This is the one that I got from someone in the UK.

Chas,
Thanks for the heads up on the surface. The hills don't look to be too severe but I'd be prepared to give the ride a go. I would plump for tubs, plus a few backups too.
The '90s Gitane from the UK was a keen buy and I'm looking forward to seeing shots of the final machine in all its glory.
Rides on clear days just don't get any better. Any (well, most) bike is a joy for me to ride, although I don't have a Bertin.
