My 84 Sprint has a Simplex SJA102 front derailleur. On my last road ride and while riding it on the trainer the front derailleur isn't shifting smoothly back to the small chainring - especially under load. If I relax on the stroke the chain then moves to the lower ring.
I was adjusting the screws on the derailleur and noticed one of them started spinning crooked. I backed it all the way out and it has a bend in the screw and part of the thread is stripped. Does anyone know if the threads these screws are French or ISO?
I may just replace the derailleur and ride in the big chainring while training until I can get another one. That's probably the easier route. |

It's actually one of the hi/low adjusting screws that puts a limit on the derailleur moving left and right to move the chain. I don't think I've ever seen a screw with a bend like this.

I have several of these derailleurs. I'll have to check the thread size. They may be a standard metric pitch thread size.
Are the threads in the derailleur body stripped? If not then you may be able to find one at a local bike shop.
Most bike shops that have been around for while usually have a box of junk derailleurs. They may let you scrounge though them to find a screw that will work. Check the rear ones too.
If the threads are stripped you may be able to re-tap the threads to a slightly larger size and use a standard US size screw.
