Jay,

$1.27 will not be enough, you'll have to go to $1.28 to be in with a chance at this moment in time.

I like the chainset.

Jay,

$1.28 and you're in. Perhaps a trader sneezed or something.

Another nice spot though.

LOL Jay, that would easily cover it but then all could change tomorrow.

Exchange rates are funny things.

Jay,

Now, that was an amazing buy. Unfortunately it wasn't me as the bike was only going to be delivered to a French address.

$28.26 is a fine price. The good news is that the bargains are still out there.

Tim,
Ya never know...I saw a desirable item the other night, advertized as USA ONLY, and it sold to Japan. Who knows what can be worked out. I've gotten UK sellers to ship to me in the past.

My only concern on the Gitane is that it was the sellers first sale.

Jay,

I guess one could always ask to send outside the specified destination, I agree. No reason why not at all.

I would not be too fussed by a seller's first sale as everyone has to start somewhere.

You have a knack of finding these great opportunities and I'm looking forward to the next.

Tim,
At least 50% of the time I've been able to get a Seller outside of the USA to let me Bid or "Buy It Now". I've gotten things from the UK, Belgium, France and Germany by asking. No problems to date and some GREAT buys. The sellers that have agreed have been very friendly and accommodating.

Jay,

I would guess that in virtually all cases the seller would prefer to sell than not, so would be open to buyer options outside those stipulated. It makes sense. Anyway, well done.

I've found that people have quite often pipped me to the post within the last 30 seconds or less. Oh well, on to the next...

Most likely the buyers are using "snipe" programs that automatically place a bid in the last few seconds of the auction. Somehow the programs can detect the amount of the highest bid and go over it without placing multiple bids. This indicates some complicity on the part of eBay.

For example say the current bid is showing $80 and I place a maximum bid of $100. The bid amount may go up to $90 because that's the maximum from the previous bidder. How does the program know to exceed my $100 maximum bid by $.01? Evil or Very Mad

I've lost auctions by as little as $.01 for items that I've watched for a week. This type of bidding discourages a lot of buyers from dealing with eBay.

On that topic, all the changes that they are making to the format is changing eBay into the Shopping Channel! Mad

When I do a search I don't want to see eBay's idea of the best choice for me! It's usually all wrong! Rolling Eyes

Chas.
