Hello again
here are two pictures of the silver Gitane frame I purchased via ebay in June 2008.
This frame is different to my blue frame in several ways:
-brake cable runs on top of top tube
-no braze on bosses for gear levers
-eyelets for mudguards
-braze on guide at BB for cables (shimano)
I think it is an earlier frame, lower in the hierarchy, but still a nice frame.
The decals state super vitus 971, but 980 is stamped on the fork steerer and one blade, the frame has super vitus droputs.
Numbers under BB....A29432 and 58095 8
I plan to rebuild as a commuter bike ie lights, mudguards (fenders) etc

Adrian,
This should make a nice riding bike.
I have a 1980 Andre Bertin bike with Super Vitus 971 decals. You can see S.V. 980 stamped into the 3 main tubes. It weighs about 19 Lbs. with sewups and a Brooks Pro saddle.
Super Vitus 980 was considerably lighter than 971 and other production bike tubing from that era.

Nice looking frame. How did you come across this one?

Here is a picture of the completed bicycle. A mixture of parts......Campagnolo gears, Suntour crank, Shimano hubs,
Velocity rims.
