The graphics were great on that bike. Look. Della Santa built the original Z Team bikes for Lemond. I doubt that Hinault would take a bike built by an American. I also heard that Della Santa built LeMond's Gitanes...NOT TRUE. That person supposedly said that the frame was built by Look. Della Santa built some Lemond Z Team frames. I've been told several different numbers but there were originally only enough to equip the team plus spares (plus some extras that keep showing up on eBay). There was also a joint venture that fell apart that had Della Santa producing Z Team replica frames and bikes. Lemond's dad who managed the business signed a deal with Billato an Italian frame builder instead (as it was told to me). Della Santa Z Team bike (replica?): Billato Z Team bike (replica). Note the red and blue are switched and the blue is lighter than on the original bikes. Disbelief! That's a lot of money without groupset continuity, rims and tubs. I would say it's earlier than the early nineties, as stated, and if so, it should ideally have the first generation C Record groupset. There is no number peg (perhaps they released replica bikes without number pegs) and only a single water bottle mount on the seat tube (again, perhaps this is how they were sold). They were pretty proud of what they had for sale (read pricey). They have 2 early 70s black racing models for sale, an Interclub and a TdF. They look to be original. Up until now I've only seen one black early 70s Gitane and that was a Gran Sport model. They had a blue early 70s Colnago in my size. Just the color and model I was looking for. The Campy NR gruppo had seen better days plus the top tube had about a 25mm dent and there was lots of rust. They wanted $600 or $700 for it which was way more that it was worth at the time, especially considering the condition. A few years ago I wrote them about another bike they had listed and it too was way over priced. So 2 for 2.... Chas.
