There's a Look Bernard Hinault La Vie Claire 753 Reynolds model bike on eBay.

I loved this bike...back then, I used to cut pieces of paper and paint them before taping them on my frame just to try and make it "Look" like this.

Looked like crap, actually. Laughing

Nicolas,

Do you know who manufactured the frame?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Cyfac....

The graphics were great on that bike. Look produced a limited edition "Mondrian" bike which is similar and looks GREAT:

I contacted the seller and he told me that someone from Della Santa worked on the La Vie Claire team and said that the bike was made by (for???) Look.

Della Santa built the original Z Team bikes for Lemond.

The "Della Santa" thing is completely overstated. I doubt that Hinault would take a bike built by an American. I also heard that Della Santa built LeMond's Gitanes...NOT TRUE.

I would bet all of your Tour de France's that Della Santa didn't build a single bike for La Vie Claire.

Stephan,

To clarify, the seller didn't say Della Santa had anything to do with the bike just that someone who is now affiliated with Della Santa was involved with the La Vie Claire team back in the day. That person supposedly said that the frame was built by Look.

Della Santa built some Lemond Z Team frames. I've been told several different numbers but there were originally only enough to equip the team plus spares (plus some extras that keep showing up on eBay). Wink

There was also a joint venture that fell apart that had Della Santa producing Z Team replica frames and bikes. Lemond's dad who managed the business signed a deal with Billato an Italian frame builder instead (as it was told to me).

Della Santa Z Team bike (replica?):

Billato Z Team bike (replica). Note the red and blue are switched and the blue is lighter than on the original bikes.

Disbelief! Shocked

No idea. Bernard Tapie ? Wink

Thanks for the update on the LeMond bikes. I had noticed the differences paintwise but didn't know much more. Greg rode the Della Santa bike mostly but I think he had that other bike too on a few occasions at the start of the 1990 season.

Well spotted Chas and a gorgeous looking bike. That's a lot of money without groupset continuity, rims and tubs. I would say it's earlier than the early nineties, as stated, and if so, it should ideally have the first generation C Record groupset.

There is no number peg (perhaps they released replica bikes without number pegs) and only a single water bottle mount on the seat tube (again, perhaps this is how they were sold).

Here's a further bit of info. from member Dave Hickey and his restored example of a Look 753, plus some detail regarding frames, etc. (Fourth post in the thread)

Tim,

Check out their list of old Gitanes:

http://www.bike123.com/used_bikes/used_bikeslist.php?start=1

I visited their shop once back in the mid 1990s. They were pretty proud of what they had for sale (read pricey).

They have 2 early 70s black racing models for sale, an Interclub and a TdF. They look to be original. Up until now I've only seen one black early 70s Gitane and that was a Gran Sport model.

Chas,

What a wonderful collection, so many and varied too. I bookmarked the site after you mentioned it through an earlier post.

I'll take a look at those models.

Thanks

Tim

When I visited their shop back in the mid 90s. They had a blue early 70s Colnago in my size. Just the color and model I was looking for. The Campy NR gruppo had seen better days plus the top tube had about a 25mm dent and there was lots of rust. They wanted $600 or $700 for it which was way more that it was worth at the time, especially considering the condition.

A few years ago I wrote them about another bike they had listed and it too was way over priced. So 2 for 2.... Rolling Eyes
