Hi Alex and welcome,
I did contact Emile Arbes, Hubert Arbes's brother about this bike and he told me you did too.
Emile confirmed it is indeed his brother's bike but unfortunately he can't afford it at the moment. Neither can I, i'm afraid. Hope some Gitane freak like us has a handful of $$$ to part with and give it a good home.
I wanted to share what Emile told me because i think it's very interesting.
First, Emile wanted to wish a happy new year to everyone on the forum, he's a regular follower. I invited him to join us in the past, when we discovered his great collection, maybe he will at one point.
-He told me that during the 1982 Tour de France, TT bikes were also used on a few flat stages. But those bikes were a little different, the handlebars were profiled like plane wings and oriented a little downwards.
This one ? it's a late 78/early 79 pic
Apparently, wheels where also Mavic but profiled too with concor saddle and front brakes at the back of the fork.
-He's not sure about the year of this bike and will dicuss this with his brother. 78 or 79 is likely but I think that 78 stickers were not with the same logo...?
-He's currently working at a museum for his collection and the last 2 bikes he found are...a 1978 Hubert Arbes bike and a 1985 Bruno Wojtinek bike (2nd at Paris-Roubaix that year) ! |

Wisey and Nicolas,
That's another superb bike. Again, where are they now?
Thanks for the shots.

Regarding the picture posted above of the team with Hinault holding the TT bike...
I believe the bars pictures are Belleri track bars. |
