Unfortunately, I am not in good shape. I have not ridden seriously in over a year, and my first race this season is fast approaching (March 1).

However, today was a perfect day:

60 miles through beautiful country (rural orange county, CA -- Santiago Canyon Road, if you know Orange County) with a "corn cob" or straightblock freewheel...on my 1987 Gitane Team Pro. Jersey: Systeme U. Bib shorts: Systeme U. Gloves (NOS!):Systeme U. Hat (NOS!): Gitane. Shoes: Vintage Sidi (the blue ones). The whole kit & kaboodle. Just as it is supposed to be.

The weather: No wind, 70-75 degrees (F), not a cloud in the sky and visibility like that rarely occurs near los angeles. Perfect.

One drawback: my C-Record derailleur is in need of replacement. If anyone has one on the cheap, let me know!

Wow. I could say a bunch of chauvenist (sp?) things there...but I won't. No, she wasn't...it is a bit beyond her range. Things warming up there in Illinois???

Well, at least you're riding again Stephan. The ride and the temperature sounds ideal.

We're having a long cold winter, longest continually cold winter for many years. Today, we're due to be deluged with snow. 70 degrees sounds perfect right now.

Tim

Stephan

I don't know you, I hope someday we will meet since we live within 100 miles. Taking on a race in March with a year off in training is pretty brave. I wish you luck.! I know I wouldn't drag my 53-year old bones around without some some serious training. Again, best of luck!

Today was a nice day for a ride. Yesterday, too. Yesterday I rode with my son, he on his 73 Tdf and me on my 75 Eisentraut. But today is my birthday so I just rode with my wife as we often do (no serious training on the wife days, but that's OK).

I also signed up for the Long Beach Tour de Cure, May 31.

Keep on riding, we're bound to run into each other!

Jim

Jim,

Happy Birthday! Cool

I'll be 65 on Thursday.... Wink

...and in case anyone hasn't guessed, I grew up in Pittsburgh. I worked in the steelmill pictured above for several years in the late 60s.

The Super Bowl is a great birthday gift! Very Happy

And many more years of cycling on your Gitanes, Colnago, etc.

That was an amazing superbowl. I'm not much into pro football, but it was worth coming inside for. Congrats on the Steelers win.
