I just purchased the above frame (only, no forks or anything else original) for $AU10 and it's great. It's pretty rusty but otherwise in good nick.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about these, what the original specs and colours were or have any images of some. I'm after any information about this bike, at all. There is not a lot about them around and we're going to try and rebuild it as much as we can, though we may make some modifications to suit what I want it for.
Cheers,

Conway,
Welcome to the site.
There's a catalog section,
http://www.gitaneusa.com/catalogues01.asp
with two I could quickly locate as likely candidates for what you have,
http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/catalog/1968/1968_pg4.jpg
A boy's 24" Sprint road bike, or
http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/catalog/us1960_pg2.jpg
a boys 24" track bike.
If your rear dropouts open toward the front, you have a road bike frame. I would guess the equipment would be similar to an Interclub of the period, since it is listed with tubular tires and centerpull brakes (which would probably have been Mafac. Since track bikes are trendy such older frames (which had few if any of the brazeons a modern frame has) are often called track frames.
I started to rebuild a rusty, forkless frame almost a year ago, and I'm now waiting on a fork to complete it. Good luck with yours!

Thanks Dave, it's definitely the road bike then.
Do you have any photos? I'll post some as soon as I get around to taking them!
The frame currently has a Weinmann type 810 rear brake and a Shimano Altus-LT RD hanging off it. It has some mostly unreadable stickers left on the top bar too... Any idea what it made have said or how to replace them? Looks like it might have read "bicyclette france champion ...." something unreadable.
Cheers!

My bike isn't the same model as yours, just in a similar condition to yours. It's a 1972 Super Corsa, but there are a couple photos here:

The bike was a lot worse than it looked or I wouldn't have stripped it. I at least wanted to stop the rust. Florida can be humid.
I can't help with the stickers. Mine were partly gone, and I think different than yours.
