Thanks for the post Wisey, some great machines there.

I like the carbon Lemond for it's technology, even though it's a gorgous machine in its own right. I call that period the transition technology period of the modern frame, where steel really did begin to seriously give way to carbon, alongside other branded notables such as Look, Raleigh and Alan.

I agree, it was certainly a notable period. The end of the "classic" period with chromed Colnagos with C-Record, and the entry of modern carbon and alu techniques and equipment changes such as areo bars, and ergo/STI levers. I wonder if the history books will reduce all the beautiful bikes of that period to a few photos of radical prototypes..........

Could well be, in the same way that the famous Group B rally cars were consigned to history after restrictive perameters were brought in to curb power, etc. The changes that the UCI enforced during that period have certainly restricted design. Perhaps for the better regards consistency, but not necessarily regards overall design.

The new shapes and ideas were always interesting to see. Something we just don't have to the same degree today. Mind you, the same was true of the steel era for many decades, and design consistency throughout.

Thanks for prompting the dwelling on that part of cycling history once more.
