Hi, I'm new to Gitane.
I just bought this Gitane Kilo (52cm) and I love this frame.
However, what i'm wondering about is if the decal on the frame should be just some stickers like i have.
is it originally like that or is it just mine?
thanks in advance. |

Yes, that is original. Very nice as well. You are missing one sticker/decal, on the down tube, which is identical to the one on the seat tube. I have one if you would like (new old stock...original). Send me a "Private Message"....
I have the same bike, but mine is missing the fork decals, which I don't have ! (hit the link and then click on the fragmented picture for the full size picture):

Mine has only been ridden indoors at the Velodrome in Carson. I see that you are in Los Angeles...so it is good to know that there is another Kilo in the area. Do you ride on the track, or are you looking to set that up on the road? If you are putting it on the road, for God's sake, please don't drill the fork (I don't think there is room anyhow). The Kilo comes with a pre-drilled brake bridge on the seat stays....
Here is a link to apic of mine at Carson...with red bar tape:

If you go to the track, be sure and check out Greg LeMond's 1983 World Championships Gitane behind glass on the wall... |

Oh really thanks for the answer!
I'm also happy that i am not the only one with this frame in my area.haha.
Actually, I just bought the frame + fork only, so I haven't built it up yet.
I'm thinking of going to build it as fixed gear.
Also, I really wanna see the Lemond's Kilo, if you have any picture of it, Please post it here.
Thanks. |

It isn't LeMond's Kilo...it is his 1983 World Championships bike (he won that on the road). Here are pictures:

The pictures were taken prior to it being put behind glass.
Regarding your Kilo build, it has to be a single speed. Whether it is fixed or not is up to you. Again, pleast don't drill anything for brakes. |
