Well said.
Armstrong is very good at driving people nuts...the way he has been teasing Contador since he announced his come back...he knew the teenager could not resist. |

Happy birthday Lofter. I had a nice glass of SA Cab/Merlot in your honour.
Speaking of the Aussie vine. We have a wine glut here, so if you see cheap aussie plonk on the shelves in your local, pick up a bottle, it's likely to be half decent. I picked up some very drinkable clean skins the other day for $3 / bottle. Easilly a $15 wine.
I've always been bored by the two or three transitional stages between the alps and pyrenees. This year we have a whole week of them. And Cavendish will probably win all of them. Got to admire his ability, but booorrrrrrrrrring!! |

So, is it just me or is Cavendish one of the most irritating/annoying riders to watch? Maybe it's the cockiness - although with his success maybe I'd be a little cocky too. |

Problem being...the pyrenees were already transitionnal stages... |

Amen, Nicolas.
Cavendish is unreal...absolutely untouchable. I like watching him, precisely because of his cockiness. Remember, my favorite rider of all time is (by far) Laurent Fignon!
I have never been an Armstrong fan, but am rooting for him this year because of the crap he has pulled at Astana. Besides, I hate Spanish riders (Contador). No panache. |

His kick is definitely something to watch. I give so much more credit though, to his team, especially Renshaw, for placing him in the ideal position to win. They're awesome at keeping the other teams at bay in the final km's of a race. Farrar tried hard the last two days but ended up with nobody on Garmin around him when it mattered. |

Farrar went the wrong way (or was forced to go the wrong way) around today. So close. I want Garmin to win a stage.
You are right about his team, but he has really been taking it to people in the last 200 meters....of course the others have had to spend energy fighting for position, but geeze he is fast! |

Renshaw is another product of the Aussie track squad. Like Vogels, and O'Grady before him. These guys have incredible skills, and all train like Armstrong on a hyper motivated day. The program worked so well a few years back that the Brits copied it lock stock and barrell. At the same time the Aussies had their funding stripped. Hence the collapse of the Aussies at Bejing and the complete dominance of GB. Watch for the British riders coming to the road as Pro's in the next 5 years.
It's great to watch someone who is so much better than the competition (Merckx, Hinault, Indurain, Armstrong, Cipolini, Cavendish), but it's far less exciting than watching a battle between evenly matched riders (LeMond/Fignon, or McEwen and Cooke battling for the Green jersey all the way to the finish line in Paris a few years ago).
I'd really like to see Lofter up against Chas in a TT, and Sandman vs. Scozim on a mountain stage. I volunteer to sit in the Directors seat in the team car with my faithful AD Nicolas. |
