There's an ersatz Gitane currently listed on eBay:

The first time I saw a St. Ettienne bike back in the 70s I did a double take. Their decals closely resembled Gitane foil decals.
This one on eBay looks a lot nicer than the entry level St. Ettienne Bike Boom models that I remember from the 70s.

That is essentially a Gran Sport. It has the same braze on cable guides and the same "fake" chromed fork crown. Might be worth buying for the fun of it...but almost $80 to ship??? crazy! |

Stephan,
I've had whole bikes shipped to me for $40!
It looks like an entry level model. The Stronglight crankset may have been an owner add on.
I built up a number of beater/trainer bikes for myself back in the day using Gran Sport and Interclub frames. I put Sugino Mighty Competition or Stronglight 93 cranks on them plus SunTour derailleurs and so on.
