Gotta say I'm going to be pulling for Andy Schleck this time around. Not sure why other than he rode so well in the Tour that I'd like to see him do well. |

I think the Schleck's will have their time in the future. I am not sure who I want to win this Vuelta. I have never been particularly fond of the race...so it is hard for me to get excited about it. I guess I will wait and see what develops.
Regarding racing, I am happy to see that my favorite racer, Jens Voigt, will be racing in Missouri.... |

From what I'm reading the climbs in this years race may be tougher than Tour or Giro.
Plenty of white knuckle excitement today - more crashes in the last 50 km than I've seen in a long time. How does someone hit the back of a tanker truck? And, the last big one in the peloton - holy cow? There was no braking at all and bodies flying everywhere. |

Would love to see Cadel crack a Grand Tour, but Valverde is right there....... money has to be on Valverde. |

Lost a lot of respect for Evans today. Sure he might have been run into the barriers, but that doesn't happen if you are in front of the race.... |

13-20% gradient on the last climb - holy #$*#(@#&$(
I'm enjoying the race - just because I can. My wife and kids have been moved to the secondary television for at least 2 hrs a day. |

Did you see the Cofidis (Estonian nat. champ, I think) who was out ahead yesterday? By the top of the climb, he was barely keeping his bike upright! Gave some indication about the grade and severity of the climb. |

The Estonian Cofidis rider who was out ahead was Rein Taaramäe. He appeared headed for a stage win when he "exploded." And my, what an explosion: He ended up finishing 111th, 8:47 down on the winner. This picture says it all:
Not to be an arse, but it is nice to see real suffering in the grand tours again! |

Great photo. Awesome to see Farrar get the win today - since he grew up 75 minutes from where I live. He's been so close for so long. |

scozim: can't agree with you more regarding Farrar. I was starting to feel bad for him, because you know it was "in his head". I am sure he was wondering if it would ever happen! Maybe now that he has one, more are sure to follow. |

Not sure if you guys remember this little bit of history: Robbie McEwen rode as a pro for quite a number of years, and was right up there in the sprints at both big and small races. He got close at the Tour again and again and again. He finnaly pulled off his first win on the Champs Elysees in the late 90s. From that point he never looked back. With sprinters it is all about self belief. First you have to believe that you can win, but then you must prove it to yourself. Hopefully this is the boost that Tyler needs to take him to the next step, a win in the Tour next year. |

So Valverde won the Vuelta. I have to admit that the race kind of bored me and I lost interest half-way through it. There is just something uninspiring about Spanish cycling, and I can't figure out what it is. I am also not that interested in the World's anymore, as it doesn't seem to really give us a world champion (the timing of the event is all wrong now). It really should be right around the tour de france, so that you have guys who are peaking for the tour able to ride the worlds. My 2 cents.... |
