Really interesting NOS Gitane Team bike on eBay:

http://tinyurl.com/yef2f4y

It's probably a 1984 or 85 bike with all Mavic components. Located in Switzerland and decked out in Gitane Team Tarantella markings.

I threw some money at it hoping to "bottom feed" but was quickly outbid by someone with 12 bid retractions in the past 6 months! I stop bidding any time that happens to me... Shill is such an ugly word! Mad

It would make a nice bike for someone in the group.

Chas.,
I'll suggest it is still a GREAT Bargain at anywhere near this price (currently $500+). Try shopping for and putting together just the Mavic SSC components in NOS condition. It will set you back a large chunk of change! A Mavic RD recently sold for $170+ not including shipping.

Jay,

I agree completely, it should go for $1200-$1500.

I was bottom feeding and my comment was aimed at being outbid by someone with 12 bid retractions in the past 6 months! I get suspicious when that happens. It used to be easier to spot shill bidding before eBay started hiding bidder's IDs (to protect us, ya sure).

Have you ever tried to do a bid retraction? eBay rules discourage bid retractions and they are supposed to be limited to listing errors and dire circumstances. I've made 1 in 8 years on eBay!

d***d ( 361) is the only bidder with retractions - 12 in 6 months!

I wonder if the team (and by the way, I have never heard of that team...has anyone here?) thought they were getting the old style bubble Gitane logo...and got stuck with these. The old version certainly would have matched better!

I've seen similar bikes on eBay before. I suspect that it was a local Swiss team (they went for a LOT of money).

Well...including shipping, y'all were right on the money (no pun intended) with your anticipated sale value of that bike: $1.1K and change.
