Sorry about this but I was in town riding my GITANE when my neighbor came out and told me he was giving away his old bike for FREE that very instant to what is sort of like a french Goodwill. It just happens to be a brand new peugeot px10 type of bike with fenders etc.
which he put in the basement 30 years ago (everyone in France has big basements with lots of junk)

For parts alone it is worth it but can anybody very secretly help me id this one?
No photos on this site but sort of under the table identification if only to keep abreast of the competition.

Thanks, Dan

It may not be a Gitane - but I have to say I am extremely jealous right now. Free ??!!!! What a great looking bike.

Now to figure out a place to put a Gitane decal or two. Very Happy

Back in New Mexico in the mid 70s, a fellow used to ride around town on a full Campy equipped Peugeot track bike. It was a TRACK BIKE not a fixie!

It was actually a Gitane Super Pista track bike that he'd repainted all white and put Peugeot PX-10 decals on. Apparently he'd worked at a large Peugeot dealer Back East and had access to decals which were impossible to get back then.

a rose by any other name... Laughing

Can a leopard change it's spots? Wink

Back in the mid-80's my dad was coveting a red 54cm Vitus 979 frameset at his bike shop. He bought the frame and then shipped it to a painter to have it painted like his other bike (another nameless French brand) so my mom wouldn't know he'd gotten a new bike. Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, Gitanes and Peugeots are made at the same place in
Romilly-sur-Seine. Cycleurope recently invested to keep this site going.

Well...kind of. Cycleurope France is headquartered at the old Peugeot factory at Romilly-sur-Seine. However, the Gitane factory in Machecoul is still running and churning out Gitane bicycles. I don't know if any Gitane branded bicycles come from the Romilly facility. I imagine they would, but don't know for sure!
