At first glance something didn't look right about this Gitane frame listed by a French seller on eBay.

On closer examination the first "red flag" that popped up was the bogus looking Reynolds 531 decal!
The whole frame is a red flag! 
Check out the closeups of the head tube lugs!
Look at the seat lug. There are 3 different styles of lugs on this frame!

It looks like that frame was put together from the sweepings off the factory floor.  So, it probably is a gitane after all. 
BB shell does look like one of the cheap Bocama shells of the mid 80's.
The Seat stay tops are all wrong for a gitane as are the cable guides under the BB shell.
I wonder if that frame has had some significant repairs at some point? Should have painted it green to complate the "Frankenbike" look.  |
